Photo Kathmandu, Nepal’s first international photography festival, will be taking place in November this year. From November 3 to 9, Photo Kathmandu, organised by photo.circle and its partners, will be hosting exhibitions, slide shows, talks and workshops to facilitate interaction between photography, history, anthropology and the arts.
The festival will also be promoting a special print sale to raise funds for the rebuilding of heritage sites in the city of Patan, where the spring earthquakes caused innumerable loss and damage.
The theme of the festival shall be ‘time’ and the special relationship that photography has with capturing time. In keeping with the theme, the festival will be working with archivists, historians, communities and families to reflect on the Nepali past “through images, memories and stories, juxtaposing the past, the present, and the future.”
Photo Kathmandu will also be partnering with Jazzmandu, a yearly international jazz festival that draws musicians and visitors from across the world. With photography, music and all the intersections in between, Photo Kathmandu will be another reason to visit Nepal!
Photo Kathmandu is supported by the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust, Nepal Picture Library, Kazi Studios, l’Alliance Francaise de Kathmandu and the Danish Centre for Culture and Development.
