Seven Reasons to Never, Ever Visit Nepal

A few months ago, in order to make the most of the newfound sense of vacancy that I had discovered during the Lockdown, I started making videos. My themes included Communication Skills (my specialisation), Transformational Thoughts (my passion) and Stories (my journal).

However, I never thought that I’ll be making a travel video. I am an Indian, and I live in Nepal. Over the years, I have been inviting a particular group of friends to visit Nepal and experience all the gems that it has to offer, but somehow, things have never materialised. This time around, I tried to do something different. I tried to use reverse psychology, to make the country absolutely irresistible to them. And, it worked.

I later realised that my ‘clickbatey’ title, coupled with some lovely photographs by Mr. Om Yadav, had captured the imagination of not only our Nepali diaspora but also of the world at large. It was a risk I had taken, but, luckily for me, it worked out at the end.

As I write today, the video has been viewed 2 million times, shared over 15000 times and has mostly received rave reviews. However, what is more gratifying is that over 800 people, with country codes that I can’t identify without the aid of Google, have messaged me. Their narratives are similar, “Ma’am, we want to visit Nepal. When is it a good time?/ What can we do there?”

This overwhelming response makes me both, proud and optimistic. Proud, because it reiterates my belief in the power of one voice. And optimistic, because it makes me feel that all the other ideas lurking around in my head, hoping to see the light of day, should be unleashed after all.

For, you never know when one could change the world.
