The earthquake came and went, but Nepal’s festivals do not stop. We have more festivals than the days of the year, and that is only the traditional ones. The big festival time is post the agricultural season, when people have time, there is prosperity, the monsoon is over and the air is crisp. Yes, that’s in the Fall.

The big ones that will come this year will be Teej (festival of women) & Indrajatra (Festival of the Rain God) in September, Dashain (a bit of a family gathering and a bit too much of eating) in October and Tihar (celebrating of animals, brothers and sisters and the festival of light) in November. In between there will be tons of other smaller ones.

However, as Nepal modernises, peppered in between all these traditions, is a bunch of popular festivals – music, dance, film, adventure etc. Combine the two and it gives enough reason to be in Nepal during this season – the crisp air, the clear skies, the festival atmosphere is something not to be missed.
