Home stay being offered at a temporary shelter in Gorkha

Dil Kumari Lamichhane is running a ‘Home stay’ in a makeshift settlement in Simjung village, 35 km north of Gorkha headquarters reports The Himalayan Times.

Lamichhane who is also the chairperson of Buddha Himal Community Home Stay, used to run a Home-stay program in her three-storey house before the earthquake. She rented out seven rooms to visiting tourists as part of her flourishing business.

After the earthquake razed it to the ground, she has restarted her business by running a similar program in a temporary settlement built of corrugated sheets. She currently lets out three rooms for guests.

At the moment most of her guests are employees of various national and international organizations running reconstruction and recovery programs in the area. Her patrons would otherwise have had to walk downhill for three hours at the most to reach either Baluwa Bazaar or Sirankot in search of a hotel.

Gorkha has been a popular destination for Home-stay or village tourism in Nepal. The stunning views of Annapurna mountain range, Mt Manaslu, Mt Himchuli and Mt Ganesh Himal, along with the opportunity to relish the local cultures and experience authentic village life made Gorkha an attractive tourism destination.

Lamichhane hopes to rebuild her Home-Stay again in the coming days.
