Minamaya world’s youngest to summit Mt Manaslu

An 18 year old Japanese climber became the world’s youngest woman to successfully summit Mt Manaslu (8,163 m) – the 8th highest peak in the world. On October 1st, Marin Minamaya beat the previous record held by Bonita Norris of Britain who was 21 when she summitted the peak in 2010. With this feat she has also become the youngest Japanese climber to successfully summit a peak above 8000 m.
According to the Department of Tourism, so far, at least 80 climbers including 47 foreigners have successfully climbed Mt Manaslu this season. The department has already issued climbing permits to 92 teams as over 550 climbers attempt to summit different peaks this autumn.
