Nepal going to ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016

Nepal’s Under- 19 cricket team has successfully secured a spot in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 after defeating Ireland by three wickets in the final qualifier played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last Thursday.

Ireland chose to bat first after winning the toss. Restricted by Nepal’s excellent bowling they managed to post a target run of 185. Nepal met the target in style with a sixer from Saurav Khanal in the 46th over with 22 bowls to spare. Left-arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi was declared Player of the Match for his outstanding record of 10-1-36-4 that was crucial to Nepal’s victory. Aarif Sheikh who claimed three wickets in the match was declared Player of the Series for his consistent performance throughout the series.

Nepal defeated Papua New Guinea by nine wickets in the first match, Uganda by 171 runs in the second match and America by six wickets in the third match before their final showdown with Ireland. The victory means that Nepal has become the 16th and final side to seal a place in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 which will be held in Bangladesh from 22 January to 14 February.
