Nepal outshone all participants to bag the “Best Stand” Award in Country category in FITUR 2016.
President of Jury for Stand Awards and General Director for Spain and Portugal, IATA, Mr. Javier Valdes, presented the awarded to the Nepalese delegation. The stall was designed with Buddhism theme with a replica of Boudhanath Stupa, the most unaffected UNESCO World Heritage site in Nepal post-quake. Officiating Director for Tourism Marketing and Promotion from NTB, Mrs. Ujjwala Dali and Coordinator for FITUR from NATTA, Mr. Sudhir Upadhyay received the award.
“A mountain brought to the hall. Prayers turned into colored flags form a tent that protects the country which showcases both its mysticism and its mountainous side in a stall,” said the jury on the Nepalese stall.
The 36th edition of FITUR was inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen, Leticia Ortiz and held in Madrid, Spain from 20-24 January. It brought together 9500 plus companies of wholesalers, tour operators, travel agencies, carrier companies, hotels & accommodation, leisure & culture service companies and tourism travel media from over 165 countries. Nepal Tourism Board in coordination with Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents participated in the trade show along with 16 private companies from Nepal.
The Nepalese delegation provided trade visitors recent updates on the post-earthquake scenario like details on accommodation, infrastructure, status of trekking trails, safety issues, flight connectivity, visa formalities, tours/activities, best time to visit Nepal etc.
FITUR is the second biggest travel fair in the world after ITB Berlin. Over 225000 people attended the five day event.
