New trekking route in Mustang comes into operation

Nepal Now, latest news updates

A new trekking route has come into operation from this season linking Myagdi to Mustang district reports Republica.

Road expansions from Beni of Myagdi to Muktinath had deterred trekkers from trekking in the region. Especially the stretch between Narchayang to Muktinath had been affected as vehicles zooming past the dirt roads discouraged trekkers from venturing into the region. A fifty percent decrease in trekker numbers have been reported since the Beni-Jomsom road came into operation.

The construction of the new route has been a five-year long endeavor under the joint initiative of the District Development Committee, Annapurna Conservation Area Project and local tourism entrepreneurs.

The alternative trekking route starts from Narchyang of Myagdi to Mukhit and cuts through the banks of KaliGandaki River. It is hoped that the new trekking route will attract trekkers back to Mustang and benefit the tourism industry in the district.
