Norway lifts travel advice on Nepal

Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted its travel advisory for Norwegian citizens wishing to visit Nepal. In the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake in Nepal, a number of countries had instituted travel advisory for their citizens, warning of potentially unsafe conditions.

Now that more than a month has passed since the initial quake and a vast majority of the country remains unaffected by the disaster, especially most of Nepal’s major trekking routes and tourist destinations, 12 countries–India, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Finland, and now Norway–have lifted their advisories. Newly appointed British Ambassador to Nepal, John Rankin, recently even took part in a social media campaign, posing for photographs with placards reading ‘I am in Nepal’ while trekking in Dhampus, in the southern Annapurna region.

“We are hoping to welcome more Norwegians to the Himalayan abode of incredible diversity and sacred summits!” the Norwegian Embassy in Nepal said on its official Facebook page.
