U.S. lifts its Travel Warning for Nepal

The U.S. Department of State cancelled its Travel Warning for Nepal on Monday, February 29.

The Department of State’s last Travel Warning was issued on October 8, 2015 which replaced the one issued on July 2, 2015.

The warning stated geological instability following the Gorkha Earthquake in April 25, the possibility of earthquakes and aftershocks, sporadic demonstrations in the Terai area, fuel-shortages and marked reduction in imports from India as chief concerns for American travelers.

“Because conditions have changed, the Travel Warning was cancelled effective February 29, 2016,” read a statement issued by Embassy of the United States in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of State publishes Country Specific Information sheets for every country in the world, including Nepal, describing local conditions and risks for American travelers. When risks of travel in a country become significant, the Department of State may issue a Travel Alert or Travel Warning.
