A jilted bride’s journey to find herself in the Himalayas

Jilted at the altar by her fiancée, Katy Colins, decided to swap heartbreak for adventure when she sold her house and car to embark on a solo trip around Thailand, India and Nepal.

Initially, Colins was ‘confused and disillusioned’ following the decision by her long-term boyfriend to call off the wedding. Having never travelled alone before, her loved ones were equally worried for her but Colin interjects that it was the right decision for her.

“I think the fresh mountain air of the Himalayan trek allowed me time to think about the person I am and the person I want to become. I am excited at what the future will hold for me. If this journey has proven anything it is to say yes to things and expect the unexpected!”

She further explains that when she came to Nepal she knew that she “needed” to hike the Himalayas having never imagined she could accomplish something like that before.

“At first I seriously struggled. But doing something so simple as walking, putting one foot in front of the other, knowing every step was a step closer really helped me. It was on this hike that I truly understood the raw amazing power of nature, of disconnecting with the world and just walking in a jaw-droppingly beautiful setting.”

From flying over Everest to trekking through the Himalayas, sleeping in a Thai jungle to seeing the Taj Mahal, Colin’s travels finally added the punch of adventure that her previous put-together life had been missing.

Her travel blog ‘Not Wed or Dead’ grew and grew in popularity eventually securing the budding author a three-book deal with Carina UK, part of Harper Collins.
