A Tale of Two Cities – Samriddhi Rai

The fourth episode of the very first 8-webisode travel series in Nepal – Sammy Adventures unfolds the treasures of Tanahun District through its popular adventure sporting activities of Rock Climbing and Caving. Rock Climbing on a 55 m limestone rock face of Bimalnagar, caving in Nepal’s largest cave Siddha Gufa and exploring the quaint little Bandipur city are the major highlights of this episode.

It takes around 1.5 – 2 hours to reach Siddha Gufa. The gufa has 10 m width and almost half km length. It is the largest cave in Nepal and the second largest in Asia. Its cathedral-like chasm is full of twisted stalactites and stalagmites and hundreds of bats chirp and whistle overhead.

“Bandipur is a living museum of Newari culture, a beautifully preserved village crowning a lofty ridge above the highway stop of Dumre. Its winding lanes are lined with traditional Newari houses. Time seems to have stood still here, although it has taken a lot of effort to preserve the magic while developing the town as a destination. Despite its proximity to the epicenter of the 2015 earthquake, Bandipur escaped with only minor damage, though a number of village houses collapsed.”
