Located at foot of the massive Annapurna range lies nature’s masterpiece, The Tilicho Lake, highest altitude lake in the world at 16,237 ft.

A destination of one of the popular sides of the Annapurna circuit trek the final approach to the lake is accomplished within 4-5 hrs. hike from the Tilicho base camp.

With a group of five members we were on the go with a drive from Kathmandu to besisahar where we sheltered at a hotel that night. A starry night indeed, never seen a sky so deep, beautifully black and there we were gazing at those hundreds and thousands of stars and getting lost.

Next morning we hired a Jeep and off to Khangsar, a remote village located in Manang district. The tranquil view of the waterfalls, the fierce Marshyandhi River and breath taking views of the Himalayas along the route gave me some of the best memorable moments of my life.

We started our hike from Khangsar through deep valley and gorges. Not an easy trail to walk on but with so many splendors on the way it was meaningful to accept the difficulty. A spectacle of nature in itself the treacherous hike through never ending steep slopes of loose gravels was worth it. With a day’s hike we reached the base camp.

Early next day excited as we should be started off to our destination.

And, finally the stop to the magnificent Tilicho.

I exclaimed!!! What a sight??? It was breathtaking.

There in front of my eyes was a fantastic panorama of the lake. I stood there and watched low lying clouds gliding over the mountain ridges, a moment when I realized that “Heaven is a myth, but Nepal is for real”.
