College Trip To Manang

After 6 hours of bus travel, we reached Besisahar and had our lunch. Then we got on the local jeep and rode till Chame around 11 PM. We stayed at Manang Marsyandi Hotel. We met our first risk on this very day when the ice had covered the road and jeep couldn’t drive on that. With effort from all students and idea from local drivers, we filled that part of icy road with sand which made it possible for jeep to climb; up up and away.

On 24th December, the second day, we visited the local high school and provided them with books and stationary that students had collected. Then started the first day of trek to Lower Pisang. After almost 6 hours, all students reached Lower Pisang safe and sound. Late night around the firewood sharing stories and hot water, we had our Christmas Eve celebration.

On the Christmas Day, we made it to Manang. The silent road along the Pinewood Forest and small villages, the roaring wind pushed us towards the dusty valley. Under the grace Gangapurna Himal, we stayed at Hotel Yeti. The shining full moon light reflected by the mountain, the chilly windy night was celebrated around firewood and music.

The 4th Day, 26th December, we visited the area around Manang and famous Gangapurna Lake which was frozen. Then we made our trek back to Lower Pisang.

27th December, we made it back to Besisahar after 9 hours of Jeep Drive. During the drive back, the local police were demolishing hills to expand the road. We students along with locals collaborated to clear the rocks and debris off the road. We reached Besisahar at around 6 PM. The night at Besisahar was made special by a group of film shooting team who sang Dohori which made everyone sing and dance.

The last day of the camp, we started our survey in the morning. Then we held our drama and dance programs at local high school. We were appreciated by the locals and students during both events. Our bus left for Kathmandu at 11 AM which marked the end to the Social Camp.

In a nutshell, Manang trek gave the chills of icy water and dusty winds with mountains behind our back and silent pinewood forest aside the frozen waterfall. The moonlight falling over the glorious mountains shadowing the small village held us astound. We were bewildered by the mystic envisage.
