Everest – A Dream Come True

Everyone has a dream. I too had one: I had always longed to see the highest peak of the world up-close. I finally got an opportunity to live my dream last September when I got a chance to cover Everest Marathon.

We landed at Lukla Airport. Also known as Tenzing Hillary Airport, this small airport was once rated as one of the most dangerous airport in the world. We trekked to Namche from here. Apparently, this place is the most expensive place in Nepal, atleast thrice as expensive as the capital city Kathmandu because of its remote location and inaccessibility to goods. I was accompanied by a close friend during my entire journey to Everest. After covering the marathon at Namche, we reached Everest Base Camp after a 3 days walk. The excitement of checking off Everest from my bucket list was overwhelming.

When we reached KalaPatthar, the highest point on the trek, the panoramic sight of the Everest and entire himalayan range left us awestruck. The breathtaking views of the landscape and serene ambience were something extraordinary and unreal. I still can’t describe how I felt at that point of time in words. I was disheartened to learn about the decline in inflow of tourists in Everest Region. The trekking trails are open, rebuilt and absolutely intact.

Everest is a once in a lifetime experience. It is something one cannot miss out on. Fear of something unpredictable should’t hold us back from living our dreams. I am sure that experiencing the mighty Everest up-close is in your wishlist too. The journey will be one of the most memorable ones of my life.
