Fifth Winter Ski Festival Held in Gosainkunda Region

With an aim to promote tourism in Nepal, Skiing, a famous winter sport was held in Gosaikunda, Rasuwa. The main objective of the event was to promote community based tourism. The game was held in the snow capped areas of Gosainkunda and Suryakunda.

A total of 75 players took part in the event which included 50 Nepali nationals and 25 foreigners from the US, the UK, Chile, Austria, Germany, Sweden and France. The winter sport which started on December 18 was made more interesting with snowfall in the alpine regions on Sunday. Skiing has been held for the past five years in Gosaikunda and Langtang areas one at a time.

The main attraction of the event was former British Gurkha army, Hari Budha Magar, taking part in the event. Magar had lost both his legs in Afghanistan while serving for the British army.

“He made it to Gosainkunda for skiing and to prepare himself for his upcoming Mt Everest expedition in 2018,” Krishna informed.
