Kagbeni : Stay the extra night

Published· Stories

Kagbeni, a medieval village situated at an altitude of 2800 m in Lower Mustang, serves as the gateway to Upper Mustang and the popular Annapurna Circuit. A comfortable 20 minutes flight away from Pokhara and a further 2-3 hours walk from Jomsom, Kagbeni is undoubtedly the perfect starting point for your treks.

However there are a few reasons why you should consider making Kagbeni much more than just a pit stop. A Tibetan Buddhist community, Kagbeni offers many opportunities of cultural immersions. Rise with the monks at the 500 year old Kag Chode Monastery, learn about the colourful yarns spun from sheep wool by the local women, walk through buckwheat blooms that grace the vista and sip a cup of organic Himalayan coffee while you catch up on world events at the local cafe.

Kagbeni wins you over with its understated charm and appeal. Just give it a day or two.
