Nepal Now- A look into Nepal via Matter Studio

Kayla Robertson and Max Greenstein of Matter Studio spoke to HuffingtonPost.au about their video ‘Nepal Now’.

Robertson came to Nepal as part of an ‘Emergency Response Team’ after the earthquake and witnessed first hand the scale of devastation that the country suffered in a matter of mere seconds. However, what stayed with her was the positivity, strength and resilience of the people.

She returned a year later with her partner, Max Greenstein, to document the progress of the past 12 months and together the filmmakers came up with the Nepal Now video.

“It’s a place of incredible beauty, deep culture and unrivaled hospitality. Many parts of Nepal were untouched by the earthquake, and many of those areas that were badly affected are moving on. While we didn’t go into making this film with a particular agenda, it was impossible to film daily life here without featuring the energy and positivity of people today.” -Kayla Robertson

The filmmakers spoke to several leading voices in Nepal including tourism entreprenuers, business owners and even a monastic professor. Raj Gyawali of Social Tours, Rajee Dhital who is a cafe owner, Khenpo Karma Gyure who is a Monastic professor and Indra Subba Prajapati who is a business owner, feature in the video.

“The earthquake has given us a window to showcase who we are as a strong resilient people. I always tell people to come to Nepal to rekindle your hope in humanity,” concludes Gyawali in the video.
