Biking to Ktm-Chitlang & Back

I desperately wanted an escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu city. Everyone deserves a break once in a while to bust the stress of everyday life. I knew about Chitlang through my friends and relatives but I never actually got a chance to explore it. Without further delay, I along with some of my friends came up with a one night stay plan to Chitlang.

Initially, we wanted to hike till Chitlang but eventually we ended up taking our bikes. We took the Pharping route. Basically, we travelled from Kathmandu to Pharping, Pharping to Kulekhani, Kulekhani to Chitlang, Chitlang to Thankot and finally Thankot to back to Kathmandu. The road from Pharping to Kulekhani is picturesque and very scenic. There was a waterfall when we were about to reach kulekhani. Since monsoon season is long gone, the waterfall was not in full flow.

Then, we headed towards Kulekhani. Kulekhani was indeed a mini paradise. The atmosphere was very tranquil and serene. The kulekhani dam water reservoir adds extra charm to the area. After staying there for a while we picked up our pace and went to eat kulekhani fish. Then we headed towards Chitlang’s famous goat farm. Chitlang is famous for goat cheese. Fortunately, we got an opportunity to meet the owner of the goat cheese factory upon reaching factory. The goat cheese – “scrumptious” – taste still lingers.

Though the road was tough, the views were totally worth it. Chitlang is a beautiful village surrounded by lush forests and wonderful landscape. Chitlang is a small paradise located about 22 km from Kathmandu Valley in the south west direction. Chitlang was once the only trail to get to India and southern part of Nepal from Kathmandu Valley. It was before the opening of Tribhuvan Highway. The village is mostly populated by Newars. Chitlang is also famous for its beautiful pear trees. Unfortunately, the pear season was long gone so all we got was tasty wine made from pear.

Night stay is the main attraction of this VDC as the people are really overwhelming in their own ways. Chitlang offers visitors with an opportunity of village home stay where you can interact and get insight of the rural life in Nepal. However, we decided to stay at Chitlang Organic Village Resort. The lush forests comprises of more than 160 species of birds, peach gardens, scenic beauty of nature. Apart from that, ethnic cultural lifestyle of the people living here are the special features of Chitlang.
