Role of International Tourism professionals in Nepal’s recovery

Spreading the word that Nepal is a must visit destination for 2016 should be top of every tourism professionals New year’s resolution in the new year, writes David Beirman for Eturbonews.com.
“Despite the many positive expressions of support from the global tourism industry for Nepal, the most tangible form of support which Nepal is currently lacking and really needs are international visitors.”
The international tourism industry was quick to extend helping hands to Nepal in its bid to recover the tourism business. Most notably Australia based Intrepid Travel and transnational tourism associations like Adventure Travel Association and Pacific Asia Travel Association raised funds for Nepal.
In the country, to deliver a keynote session at a workshop on tourism recovery organized by SAMARTH, a not for profit organization based in Kathmandu, Beirman confesses that he was surprised and relieved to find that the situation on the ground was not as desperate as the international community assumed it to be.
“It was clear to me and to most visitors to Nepal who have commented on the internet, that Nepal is fully open and warmly welcomes international visitors.”
Not only is tourism dollars vital to Nepal’s recovery, it is also an aspirational destination and the genuine hospitality of the Nepalese people make the country a great destination, he further writes.
