Shelter for tourists constructed at Thorang pass

A good news is in store for trekkers who were planning to trek the Annapurna Region. A temporary shelter has been constructed at the Thorang Pass that lies in the route. The shelter has been constructed at a cost of 4 million rupees supported and contributed by the District Development Committee, Mustang and Nepal Tourism Board.

A majority of the visitors coming on this trekking route would like to get to the Thorang-la pass at 5,400 metres from the sea level. The Round-Annapurna Trekking is 21 days. According to DDC, Mustang programme officer Kedar Singh said that two shelters have been constructed for the convenience of the trekkers at Thorang area which bestrides the border between Mustang and Manang districts.

Shelters were badly needed at Thorang-la pass where the trekkers could stay in at times of inclement weather conditions. It may be recalled here that more than 25 people including foreign tourists and their Nepali guides and porters were killed during a snowstorm that lashed the region during this time two years back for lack of shelter.
