These stunning images taken by photographer Manish Ratna Shakya, display a fascinating juxtaposition. The destruction wrought by the earthquake is no doubt palpabl, but the disaster was not able to destroy everything. Despite so much rubble, there is so much more still standing tall. These images from the Kathmandu Valley’s ancient durbar squares display a resilience that is seeped in the soil, a strength that is ingrained in the people and the land. In a way, these sights are a defiant challenge, as if to say — we will persevere and we will survive.
