Student attempting a charity trek to Everest Base Camp

Lissa O’Callaghan from Hereford, England is set to trek to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Children with Cancer UK reports Hereford Times, a weekly newspaper from England.

A third year student at Exeter University, Lissa is embarking on this trip of a lifetime with a group of 11 fellow students from a fundraising society. Admittedly she says, she has never done anything like this before but is challenging herself to help garner more support for the outstanding work the charity does in the UK.

“We will fly to Kathmandu and then on to Lukla airport which is considered the Gateway to Mt Everest. From here we will trek our way to Everest Base Camp at Gorak Shep and beyond to Kala Platter, the highest point in our trek at just over 18,000 feet! It will then take us six days to walk back down afterwards,” said Lissa.

Charity treks to Everest Base Camp have remained hugely popular as not only is Mt. Everest the highest mountain in the world, the trek to its Base Camp is one of the hardest treks in the world. Trekkers follow in the footsteps of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first summiteers of Everest along steep descents, tough ascents, glacial valleys and rugged landscapes.
