Tamang community celebrates Sonam Lhosar

Tek Simkhada shares some highlights from the Sonam Lhosar Festival in Tundikhel.

The Tamang community in Kathmandu valley heralded Sonam Lhosar with a big celebration in Tundikhel grounds on February 9.

This festival is celebrated by the Tamang community, one of the indigenous inhabitants of the multi-ethnic country. ‘Lho’ means year while ‘Sar’ means new and the festival marks the first day of the Tamang New year which falls in the month of Magh on the Nepali calendar.
