To Everest Base Camp for Cancer Council

Hollie Swanton, an occupational therapist and lymphoedema practitioner from Cairns, will take on the Everest Base Camp trek to raise money for the Cancer Council.

Swanton’s trek will begin on April 24 and last a gruelling 19 days. Organized through Cancer Council Queensland and Everest One, Swanton hopes to be able to ‘give back’ to the Cancer Council, who she has seen support several women through tough times with the disease.

The therapist credits the breast cancer patients she has been working with for about five years, as a source of inspiration for their ability to smile through the hardest times of their lives.

Witnessing such beauty and grace in the face of difficult personal battles, also inspired the Australian to challenge herself. Ms Swanton has been hiking three to four times a week in preparation for the trip, while also going on all-day hikes on the weekends.

She described herself as feeling ‘a mixed bag of emotions’ and nervous, but anticipating the trek ahead.

Mount Everest Base Camp trek is considered one of the toughest and most scenic treks in the world.
