Trip to Mustang- An incredible Journey

Mustang is an amazingly serene place which exudes peace and harmony. The majestic mountains, cold breezing wind and the allurance of the place will keep you smitten. Once a forbidden and independent kingdom, Mustang is now open for everyone. Foreigners require a special permit to explore around the place.

The trek mostly starts at Jomsom which is also the district headquarter of Mustang. The modes of transportation till here are either by air or by road or by trekking trail. Then the trail goes along the Kaligandaki River, Kagbeni Village – a holy sacred place which is also an entrance to upper mustang, moves up to Khingar and a little more push leads to Jharkot and then to Ranipauwa where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Mt.dhaulagiri, Thapa Peak, Nilgiri north, Tilicho, Tukche and Dhampus.

The other places to be in Mustang are Muktinath Temple – famous pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists, Marpha Village (1.5 hours walk from Jomsom) and Dhumba Lake. We couldn’t make it to Upper Mustang this time but it sure is on top of my bucket list.

Mustang was all in all a blissful experience. The impact made by the earthquake was very less partly because houses commonly have 1 or 2 floors and are mostly made up of stones.

Advice to travelers – The trek is usually a non – technical trek and is suited for average people. However checking your altitude sickness and itinerary is always a good idea.
