Villagers of Sindhupalchowk on a mission to rebuild their village

“United we stand, divided we fall”. Unity is strength and we can overcome the biggest hurdles in life if we stand united. After the devastating earthquake in Nepal, Nepalese people have demonstrated the true meaning of unity. Instead of grieving and crying over what is gone, people are building their own fate and are working actively to form a new Nepal.

Sindhupalchowk was one of the worst hit district of Nepal. The earthquake victims in Sindhupalchowk are working actively to develop their village. Men carrying spades are digging up the ground and women are also actively involved in the rebuilding works. Members of 67 households in the village have been working to build an irrigation pond since the last week. Krishna Bahadur Bogati,58, one of the volunteers, has been working as energetically as any youth. He wants his village to have greenery after building the irrigation pond. He added that the locals will also be a part of planting seasonal vegetables for their livelihood.

In the past, the water from the tap and other resources were not utilized and the hills were also uncultivated. But the villagers have now initiated to collect water in the pond for irrigation. The villagers have also completed constructing a new road before starting to build the pond. A member from each of the households contributed free labor to construct a new road. They have also repaired it by arranging a canal alongside. The villagers have been working actively since 2 months to build their village.

Dwelling into sorrow and wallow about trouble will only worsen the situation. In times of misery, desperate measures are to be adopted. The villagers have well understood this fact and are trying their level best to build a better tomorrow for themselves. “Following the earthquake, many drinking water sources dried. We worked round the clock to get the supply of drinking water restarted from a source one kilometer from our village,” Prem Bahadur Lama, a volunteer said.
